Why paver count changes quickly

The paver count depends on the face size of the paver and the waste allowance. A standard 8x4 in paver covers about 0.22 sq ft, so a 100 sq ft patio starts near 450 pavers before waste.

Patterns with many cuts, borders, curves, or diagonal layouts should use more waste than a simple rectangular running bond pattern.
