About

About these paver calculators

Paver Material Calculator is a small collection of planning tools for patios, walkways, and gravel driveway projects. The calculators turn project dimensions into practical estimates for aggregate base, bedding sand, polymeric sand, gravel, and cost.

The default values are common planning assumptions, not job-site specifications. Always confirm product density, bag volume, coverage charts, drainage requirements, soil conditions, and local construction guidance before ordering materials.

Calculator methodology

The calculators use transparent volume formulas: area equals length times width, layer volume equals area times depth, and order quantity includes the selected waste allowance. Bulk aggregate is converted from cubic yards to tons using the density entered by the user.

Default assumptions are intentionally editable: 1.6 tons per cubic yard for crushed paver base, 1.4 tons per cubic yard for driveway gravel, 10% waste allowance, 4 inch patio base depth, and 1 inch bedding sand. These are planning defaults, not a substitute for supplier data or a local installation specification.

References and limits

Manufacturer and industry guidance commonly describe a compacted aggregate base under pavers and a 1 inch bedding sand layer. For reference, see the Belgard installation process and CMHA construction guidance.
