Brick Patio Estimator

Last updated June 2, 2026

Use this brick patio estimator for brick-style pavers such as common 4x8 in units. It turns patio size into brick count, base tons, bedding sand, polymeric sand, edging, and a material cost range.

Quick answer

  • A 10x10 brick patio needs about 495 standard 4x8 brick pavers with 10% waste.
  • A 12x12 brick patio needs about 713 brick pavers, 3.13 tons of base, and 0.49 cu yd of sand.
  • Increase waste for herringbone patterns, borders, curves, and many cut bricks.

Brick patio count by pattern

Running bond and basket weave patterns usually have fewer cuts than diagonal herringbone layouts. If the design has a border course or angled field, use a higher waste allowance.

The estimator below lets you change paver length, paver width, and waste so the brick count matches your actual product and pattern.

Base and sand for a brick patio

Brick-style paver patios still need the same structural layers as other dry-laid paver patios: compacted aggregate base, a consistent bedding sand layer, joint sand, and edge restraint.

Do not use bedding sand to compensate for poor base compaction. Correct the base first, then screed the sand.
